Our Values

DSC05156Relationships are everything

  • Warm, caring relationships underpin our program.
  • Staff strive to build strong relationships with the children, families, the broader community & each other based on trust & respect.
  • We believe children, parents and educators have an equal partnership in education. Evidence reflects that parents and educators working and sharing information together will produce improved outcomes for children.

Children learn best through play

  • Evidence comprehensively demonstrates that children make sense of their world through play.
  • We believe that play should be unhurried & open ended.
  • We provide a play-based curriculum whereby educators provide a range of indoor and outdoor learning experiences. These are intentionally based upon the acquisition of skills through key learning areas. These include dramatic play, tinkering, sensory, construction, reading, collage, literacy resource, numeracy resource, painting/drawing & mark making, carpentry, climbing & swinging, science & nature.
  • Educators pro-actively plan for individual children to extend learning, skill and conceptual understandings through the learning experiences and children’s interests.
  • Documentation is an important part of our program at WSK. Written notes, photographs, children’s graphic representations and other collected materials are displayed as points of interest to proceed.  This indicates a genuine interest and respect for children’s work and provides an opportunity for them to revisit and reflect.

Inclusion & Diversity

Inclusion for all children is important to WSK. We respect & promote the acceptance and inclusion of all children at the kindergarten.

Sustainability within the natural world

  • Research reflects that children learn in the early years through modelling, through example and experience.
  • WSK has a commitment to caring for the physical environment with an emphasis on natural and sustainable resources that reflect the local community and families. We embed this into everyday experiences with the children through practices such as recycling, re-using, composting, communicating with families & the children about how we support sustainability etc.
  • Learning through the natural world is evident by the commitment to our Bush Kinder Program.
