Wilson Street Kindergarten provides stimulating, high quality three and four year old kindergarten programs with a commitment to excellence and innovation in early childhood education. It is through our inclusive, open-ended and play-based learning environment that our children learn about respect, imagination, problem-solving, self-confidence, resilience and social standards, while having fun in a supportive, caring and nurturing environment. Educators provide a range of indoor and outdoor learning experiences, intentionally based upon the acquisition of skills through key learning areas including: dramatic play, sensory exploration, construction, literacy, numeracy, visual arts, gross motor development, science and nature.
Documentation is another important part of our program. This includes written notes, taking photographs, children’s graphic representations and other collected materials used to analyse and develop further learning. It also provides children an opportunity to revisit and reflect, therefore developing their metacognitive skills. The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), the National Quality Standards and the UN Convention on The Rights of The Child underpin our play-based emergent curriculum, with an emphasis on developing all aspects of the child’s learning and development. Our play-based emergent program draws from several influences such as Walker Learning, the Forest Schools and the Educational Project of Reggio Emilia.
