Independent Toileting – A Big Milestone
At WSK, we strongly encourage children to develop independence and see themselves as strong and capable individuals. Toilet training is a significant step in a child’s journey toward autonomy and confidence.
Consistency is key. For toilet training to be successful, children need a unified and supportive approach from both home and early learning environments. When families, childcare, and kindergarten provide consistent routines and messaging, children feel secure and are more likely to progress with confidence. Mixed messages, on the other hand, can create confusion and setbacks.
Most children begin to master toileting by around three years of age. When you feel your child is ready, introduce the topic gently, and approach the process with consistency, patience, and persistence. Accidents will happen — they are a normal part of learning. What’s most important is to remain encouraging and supportive.
We also recommend avoiding the use of pull-ups during the day once training begins, as this can send mixed signals and delay progress. Nighttime pull-ups may still be appropriate while your child builds confidence during the day.
